ICED 2010

ICED 2010
Professional Development Workshops
Sunday, 27th June 2010, 10 am – 6 pm

Description:

It has been common practice, over the years that ICED conferences were held, of holding professional development workshops on various faculty/educational development topics immediately before or after the conference. This was done particularly well at the last ICED conference, held in Salt Lake City, in June 2008. Therefore, the format will remain in line with what was done at the last conference, with a few small modifications.

Purpose:

The professional development workshops are very different from actual conference sessions in that they aim at facilitating the development of specific skills. The workshops therefore focus on specific themes/skills with the intent for the participants to integrating such themes/skills in their practice.

Scheduling:

In order to enable the development/acquisition of skills, workshops are longer than conference sessions (between 2 to 3 hours each). In light of the potential number of conference participants, a maximum of 12 workshops will be held on Sunday 27 th June 2010 according to the following schedule:

10 am – 1 pm    Maximum of six concurrent workshops

3 pm – 6 pm    Maximum of six concurrent workshops

Selection criteria:

Conference participants[1] who wish to offer a workshop should submit a proposal meeting the following criteria (proposals not addressing each of these elements will not be considered):

-The faculty/educational development theme(s) or skill(s) targeted by this workshop are clearly described.

-The learning outcomes for participants to this workshop are clearly stated.

-Instructional strategies used in the context of the workshop are in line with the learning outcomes.

-Participants will have the opportunity, during the workshop, to assess if they meet the specified learning outcomes.

-Follow-up measures will be put in place to ensure that participants benefit from the workshop beyond it (e.g., post-workshop network, exchange of information).

These criteria will be used to assess all proposals. In case that the number of proposals meeting these criteria is greater than the twelve time slots available, priority will be given to workshops that are directly addressing the theme of the conference, as described in the call for papers.

Registration and fees:

Conference participants will have until May 30th, 2010 to register to a maximum of two workshops. Participation is free as workshops are organised on a voluntary basis. A maximum of 18 participants will be allowed to register to a given workshop on a first-come first-serve basis.

Proposal submission:

Workshop proposals should be submitted by e-mail (in doc or pdf format) no later than February 1st, 2010 to the conference address: iced2010@ultramarevents.com. The subject of this e-mail should be:

“Pre-conference workshop proposal”.

Confirmation of acceptance will be sent by March 1st, 2010. The workshop programme will be finalised and put online by March 15th, 2010.

Food:

Participants to the morning and/or afternoon workshops will be able to eat at restaurants located at a shopping mall near the conference venue. These restaurants are open on Sunday, between 1 and 3 pm.
